Florence Knoll

Born in 1917 Florence Knoll is an American furniture designer who studied under Mies van der Rohe and Eilel Saarinen (Eero Saarinen’s father).

In 1938 Hans Knoll founded his furniture company and in 1943 Florence joined with her vision to grow interior design by working with architects; she succeeded. With many famous architects putting their furniture designs through Hans Knoll.

In 1946 they married and she became a partner in the business with the name being changed to Knoll Associates.

Almost half of the furniture pieces in the Knoll collection were her designs including tables, desks, chairs, sofas, benches and stools. Knoll designed furniture that was not only function but would also complement its surroundings.
